Most requested wedding songs
“What are the most requested wedding songs?” is actually one of my most asked questions. When brides and grooms sit down to work out the playlist for their big day, often it is very easy to suddenly go blank and completely forget all of their favourite music from the last few decades. I have therefore, written this blog to assist. This should give you an idea of the most popular tracks that other couples put on their playlists.
Most requested ceremony music
My top 4 most requested tracks for ceremony music are as follows:
John Legend – All of me
This gets requested a LOT, in all forms. There are also a few instrumental versions out there that work really well.
Christina Perri – A Thousand Years
Also very popular. Again – I find the acoustic/instrumental versions of this can be very classy.
Leonard Cohen – Hallelujah
This one often makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck.
Lauryn Hill – Can’t take my eyes off of you
This reincarnation of the Frankie Valli classic is also probably my favourite from this list. It is a bit different, but I think it really works whilst guests are walking/sitting down.
Most requested evening wedding songs
Over the last 13 years of DJing at weddings, I have come across the good, the bad and the ugly when it comes to song requests. I have had couples ask for “smack my b*tch up” for their first dance, all the way through to couples who just want the standard generic wedding stuff. But certain songs come up time and time again. Here are the most popular:
Earth, Wind & Fire – September
I actually looked at my most played tracks on Serato to find out the answer to this, but i didn’t need to, I had already guess what it was going to be. September gets put on the “Must play” list by couples for about 70% of the weddings I get booked for. And I must say, it always seems to fill the dance floor.
Luther Van Dross – Never Too Much
This one is a timeless classic, and still very popular to this day. Need I say more?
The Temptations – My Girl
I would say that this is on a good 40% of the playlists I look at.
Chaka Khan – Aint Nobody
I don’t feel that this needs any explanation.
House of Pain – Jump around
I like to catch a crowd off guard with this one, people lose their mind when this comes on and they weren’t expecting it.
